IRAS Insurance Guidance

The following is guidance for the completion of IRAS questions in relation to research insurance. The options presented here should cover the majority of research projects - however, if the answers do not apply to the specifics of your study please contact research-governance@bristol.ac.uk to discuss.

Note, the incoming Combined IRAS system has a 200 character limit, so the responses are necessarily brief.

Unless you have been advised otherwise by Research Governance, please answer the IRAS Insurance questions as follows:

Question A76-1 (Standard IRAS) / E3 (Combined IRAS)

Select "

UoB hold Public Liability insurance to cover the University’s legal liability as Research Sponsor, in the event of harm to research participants arising from management of the research by the University

Question A76-2 (Standard IRAS) / E4 (Combined IRAS)

Select "

UoB hold Public Liability insurance to cover the University’s legal liability, for harm to participants arising from the design of the research, where procedures were designed by UoB staff or students

Question A76-3 (Standard IRAS) / E5 (Combined IRAS)

Select "Research includes non-NHS sites (give details of insurance/ indemnity arrangements for these sites below)"

UoB’s Public Liability insurance covers harm caused by conduct of staff & students. Also other agents, if acting in accordance with study design, but not negligence of 3rd party persons or organisations

Question E6 (Combined IRAS) - or any other question relating to no-fault / non-negligent / no liability insurance.

Unless this has been specifically discussed and agreed by the Insurance Office, always answer No.
