Law School announces recruitment of new cohort for successful Browne Jacobson mentoring scheme

Mentors and Students at the London Office of Browne Jacobson

Press release issued: 18 December 2019

National law firm Browne Jacobson has recruited six Bristol Law School students for the second year of its successful mentoring scheme with the University.

The scheme was launched in 2018 as part of a two-year pilot programme with the first year receiving positive feedback and engagement from the participants who took part. The scheme offers a fresh approach to how mentors and mentees are matched with the firm initially hosting a ‘matching / speed networking’ type evening at its London office, culminating in the option for all students to do work experience at the firm. The mentors from the firm will then provide quantifiable feedback to each student.

Roseanne Russell, Employability Director at the University of Bristol Law School said: “The Law School is excited to partner with Browne Jacobson in this unique mentoring scheme. We all know that obtaining a law degree from the University of Bristol will give our students a great start to any career but finding the career that is the best fit for you can take time and effort. We also know that sometimes we need a bit of help along the way. This is where our partnership with Browne Jacobson comes in. This mentoring scheme is invaluable in helping explore individual career aspirations.”

The scheme was initially the brainchild of Browne Jacobson partner and head of the London office, Declan Cushley. Declan who graduated from the University of Bristol Law School 25 years ago, commented on the scheme:

“The programme provides a unique avenue for our solicitors and students of the University to connect and engage with one another, share knowledge and help define career goals. It is also an excellent opportunity for those involved to discover new talents, career insights, and skills that can contribute to life-long success.”
