Following the success of Law School alumni in last year's list, we wish to congratulate Jansen and Nicholas for being selected for the 2016 "Top 70 most influential lawyers under 40" listing.
There are more or less 5,000 lawyers in Singapore, but the 24 women and 46 men chosen this year dominate the city’s legal sector. This prestigious listing brings Singapore’s 70 legal elites specialising on family, intellectual property, cyber, mergers and acquisitions, international, oil and gas, tort, international trade, and finance.
Jansen Chow, 34 and Nicholas Lauw, 35 are both partners at Rajah & Tann in Singapore
Jansen Chow practices commercial litigation, fraud, asset recovery and investigations. Jansen Graduated from the Law School in 2006 and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2008. He was appointed as a member of the Young Amicus Curia scheme with the Singapore High Court for two terms in 2010 and 2011, and has substantial experience in court litigation. He has successfully argued a trial in the Singapore High Court as Lead Counsel when he was a Senior Associate. He has been involved in several high-profile trials and appeals to the Court of Appeal, such as the case of Hwang Cheng Tsu Hsu v Overseas Chinese Bank Corp Ltd., the leading authority in Singapore, on bankers's duty relating to suspected elderly fraud and mental incapacity. He has also advised on matters involving foreign proceedings in jurisdictions such as England, Thailand and Indonesia. Jansen is a keen advocate and has appeared regularly as lead or co-counsel in the Singapore Court and arbitration tribunal.
Nicholas Lauw specialises in intellectual property (IP) and information technology (IT) matters. He has carried out several successful IP enforcement prgograms involving both self-financing IP enforcement work and private prosecution proceedings against infringers. Both he and some of his anti-ambush marketing work for organisations such as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and companies such as Daiso Industries have been cited in the Asia Pacific legal 500. He has also acted for clients in several contentious IT disputes. While his clients in such matters can vary from governments, to small-medium size enteprises, a lot of the problems that they face are similar, and Nicholas has developed a good sense of the kinds of issues regularly faced by IT companies and their customers when implementing large scale IT solutions.
