To what extent does international law protect the right of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return to their homes after conflict, generalised violence, or natural or human-made disasters?
This timely question was the focus of a presentation given by Ben Hudson, PhD Candidate at the University of Bristol Law School, last week at the 9th Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies (CARFMS) at the University of Winnipeg, Canada.Ben's presentation, which was drawn from his current doctoral research, focused specifically on the human rights protection gaps that exist in international legal frameworks as pertains to the movement-related needs of IDPs.
Thanks go to the Law School, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), as well as CARFMS, for their funding and logistics support.
