Prominent legal scholars convene to discuss the delicate - but pertinent - relationship between law and democracy at the third annual Bristol Law Conference on 27 March.

19 March 2015

In a year that will see much political change: the general election; the aftermath of the recent Scottish referendum; and the continuing debate over membership to the European Union, the question of how the law deals with, and adapts to, the ever-shifting will of the electorate strikes particularly close to home. This topic is relevant and comprehensible enough to engage and inform participants without any prior legal expertise, yet complex and specific enough to create opportunities for nuanced academic discourse.

The student-run conference has gathered eminent minds from across the UK to share their perspectives on this matter.
  • Sir Roger Grenfell Toulson, Justice of the Supreme Court
  • Mr Sam Stein Q.C., Criminal Barrister, Mansfield and Westgate Chambers
  • Professor Keith Stanton, Professor of Law, University of Bristol
  • Professor Alan Norrie, Head of Warwick Law School

After the speakers have finished, there will be a panel discussion where audience members can voice their questions and insights, and interact directly with the speakers.

The Bristol Law Conference, titled 'Law and Democracy: Does Modern Reform Truly Reflect the People's Will?', will be held on 27th March 2015, 12pm, at the Great Hall, Wills Memorial Building, Bristol.

Admission is completely free, but do register in advance on EventBrite.
