The Law School is delighted to announce that a Bristol team – comprising undergraduates Joe McBrien and John Wu (both second years), and Georgina Thompson (final year) – has won the 2015 National Maritime Law Moot Competition. The event, which is organised by the University of Swansea and sponsored by 7 King’s Bench Walk, a leading commercial set, and Informa Law, a leading legal publisher, took place over a three day period. The Final – which was held in London on the evening of Monday 22 June – marked the culmination of a weekend of mooting, where teams from across the country battled it out in the preliminary rounds.
As well as triumphing in the final, the Bristol team narrowly missed out on the award for best skeleton argument, and Georgina narrowly missed out on the award for best overall mooter.
Nicholas Pointon, a local barrister and part-time tutor at the Law School, who helped to coach the team said: “The win is all the more impressive since the three Bristol undergraduates, none of whom have ever studied maritime law, prevailed over postgraduate teams specialising in the field.”
The Law School would like to congratulate Joe, John, and Georgina on a fantastic achievement.
