Citizens Advice Bureaux and employment disputes

About

This project examines workers' access to justice when faced with employment problems. It focuses on those who cannot easily afford to pay for legal advice and who approach the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) - now a major actor in UK industrial relations - about pursuing a dispute.

The questions posed include:

  • How do these workers decide to proceed with their employment cases (if at all) after meeting with the CAB?
  • Are they able to successfully navigate the legal process of resolving employment disputes?
  • Are they able to achieve the outcomes they hoped for?
  • How does the Employment Tribunal system enable people with limited resources to pursue an employment dispute?
  • How will the changes to Employment Tribunals currently being put into place assist access to justice?
