Barbara Baird
Barbara Baird works in the Discipline of Women’s Studies at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. Her research uses feminist and other critical theories in interdisciplinary approaches and focuses on the histories and cultural politics of sexuality and reproduction in Australia and the shaping of these by discourses of race and national identity. She has been researching abortion for over 25 years. Her current research project is a historical investigation of the provision of abortion services in Australia since 1990. She has been actively engaged in feminist and LGBTIQ community activities and activism for many years. She has been involved in abortion activism in Tasmania and South Australia and since 2015 has been the co-convenor of the South Australian Abortion Action Coalition which is working towards the decriminalisation of abortion in South Australia.
