Governance of the process for managing the risk of occurrence of infectious disease at the University has been the responsibility of the Infectious Disease Control Committee (IDCC), a joint public health authority-University group, since 1998. The IDCC has met since its inception on an annual basis to review the University’s procedures and assess risks in relation to public health that might impact the University.
It was agreed at this year’s annual meeting of the IDCC that it would no longer meet as a standing committee, and that it would now exist primarily as a virtual group that shares generally important or new information about infectious diseases as it becomes known. The group will now also be consulted on a virtual basis by the Student Services Divisional Office on an annual basis in order to review the Infectious Diseases Protocol.
It was also agreed that the group could still meet formally as the Infectious Diseases Control Tactical Response Group (IDC TRG), if and when required, such as during an outbreak of an infectious disease. It was agreed that the group’s membership would not change, although the University Registrar (or nominated deputy) would assume chairing responsibilities for the IDC TRG in emergency situations.
