Dr Sarah Serning, Senior Tutor, Humanities
As Senior Tutor in the School of Humanities, Sarah provides pastoral support, particularly to those students whose circumstances may impede their study. She is in a position to offer expert advice and guidance to students, across a wide range of issues.
Sarah's intention is to support students in many ways, often looking at how to manage anxiety and develop independence and emotional intelligence. Sarah also works as a point of contact between the University's wider support services, intending to ensure that students gain the individual skills and support they need to develop into successful graduates and fulfilled professionals.
Sarah completed MA and doctoral qualifications at the Centre for Buddhist Studies in the department of Religion and Theology at Bristol University. She went on to complete a full professional training in psychotherapy and has since run a counselling service at an HE institution as well as a private psychotherapy practice. Sarah's research began in the field of Buddhist ethical narratives. More recently she has guest-edited a journal for the UK Council for Psychotherapy and has a book in preparation on anger in culture and psychotherapy.
Sarah is based in Room G47, 11 Woodland Road. Contact her at sarah.serning@bristol.ac.uk .
