Hydroclimatic Extremes Group

Flood and drought events are predicted to increase in both intensity and frequency because of climate change and human activities such as increased water demand.

The Hydroclimatic Extremes group at the University of Bristol focusses on understanding and predicting hydro-climatic extremes (floods and droughts) in these changing environments across the UK and internationally. Our expertise centres on building, applying and evaluating hydrological models for the improved simulation of water systems from local to continental scales across large samples of catchments.

We work closely with other academic partners, communities, regulators and industry to quantify future flood and drought risk, and to understand the impact of humans on the terrestrial water cycle.
