Since completing her BSc in Chemistry, Louise Hussein has been launched straight into the world of teaching as part of her PGCE at Kings Colleage London. A scholarship from the Royal Society of Chemistry means she had the benefit of extra tuition too.

Tell us about your experiences during your PGCE

It’s been a great experience - passing on my knowledge to the next generation has been so rewarding. My students always ask me about my time at Bristol, and it is great to be able to inspire others to follow in my footsteps. Putting the complicated aspects of Chemistry into language that 11-16 year olds can access has been a challenge at times, and I often find myself repeating the anecdotes and analogies I was told in lectures. Children have so many questions about the world which are often left unanswered, and being able to use my  expert knowledge to explain all the phenomena we observe everyday has been extremely gratifying. I would definitely recommend it.
