Support for international students
In the past few years we have welcomed PGR students from around the world, including Brazil, China, Iraq, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Poland, Qatar, Spain and the USA, to name just a few.
International students can find full details about applying to and studying at Bristol, including entry requirements, country-specific information, visa information, finance and fees, accommodation and summer schools.
Postgraduate study
Postgraduate training in cellular and molecular medicine is organised through the Faculty of Life Sciences Graduate School. We are well equipped to undertake basic research in many areas of cellular and molecular medicine, particularly in the areas of immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, cancer, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, virology and aspects of medical microbiology.
Research programmes
We encourage proposals for a PhD/MD/MSc by Research project of your choosing.
Start the process by contacting an individual principal investigator relevant to your research interests, or find out more about our research in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
We also often have pre-defined research projects available for the MSc by Research.
Funding
M.Sc. by Research degrees can be supported by student loans.
Most of our Ph.D. or MD students are part of Research Council or Charity-funded Ph.D. programmes or come as international students with support of their home governments, though this is not a requirement. Ph.D. programmes with CMM staff as potential mentors include but are not restricted to the following programmes:
- BBSRC South West Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership
- Wellcome Trust PhD in Dynamic Cell Biology
- Medical Research Foundation National PhD Training Programme in Antimicrobial Resistance Research
- Medical Research Council Great Western 4 (MRC GW4)
Admission is handled by the programmes, not the School, and applications should be made via the University of Bristol website. In addition, occasional single fully funded Ph.D. positions in the School are advertised on find a phd. Applicants bringing their own support for their Ph.D. studies usually identify a potential mentor and discuss projects before submitting a formal application to the School. The research interests of our staff that underpin potential projects are listed on the University of Bristol postgraduate pages.
Additional funding opportunities are listed on the Graduate School website.
