Welcome and thank you for your interest in Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) for your postgraduate study.
We normally accept only those post-graduate students who intend to study for the degrees of Ph.D. or M.D. by research. These individual programmes of study may start at any time of the year, as is convenient to the student and the research adviser(s), although most students commence their study period at the beginning of October.
Students who enrol in Cellular and Molecular Medicine are automatically members of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences. The Graduate School offers an induction course to all new postgraduate students at the beginning of October. At this induction new students are given information about the University and the services it offers. They are told what is expected of them throughout their programme of study and what they can expect from us and the University by way of support.
Research training is primarily undertaken within the research group that the student joins, but access to a wide range of experimental expertise and training outside the particular research group is readily available within Cellular and Molecular Medicine, in other University schools or in an appropriate hospital laboratory.
CMM is well equipped to undertake basic research in many areas, particularly in the areas of immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, cancer, virology and aspects of medical microbiology. We have completed a major refurbishment of our research accommodation creating an outstanding working environment with state-of-the-art facilities.

A taught programme is offered in Transfusion and transplantation sciences leading to an MSc degree. This course is provided jointly by the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the Bristol Institute for Transfusion Sciences.
A separate taught/research MSc in biomedical sciences research is also offered by the schools in the faculty.
Please note that the MSc in Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences and the MSc in Biomedical Sciences Research are the only taught postgraduate courses that we offer within CMM. All other postgraduate study is by research.
