The Born Talking seminar series is a series of events that focus on using birth cohort data* to address questions about typical and atypical speech, language and communication. The fifth event in the series will take place in collaboration with ALSPAC and Bristol Speech and Language Therapy Research Unit on Monday 11 July 2016 at Canynge Hall, University of Bristol, 39 Whatley Road, Bristol BS8 2PS.

Presentations will include:

  • Overview of ALSPAC – Lynn Molloy, executive director of ALSPAC

  • ALSPAC G2 (COCO90s): the next generation – Mel Lewcock, COCO90s project manager

The day will also include a data discovery session where delegates will be introduced to the dataset and gain an understanding of how it is organised. This will be followed by themed discussions for attendees with a specific interest in one of the following: speech, language, communication, stammering.

We would be delighted if you would come and join in the discussion.

For practitioners, PhD students and early career researchers we can offer travel bursaries of up to £75 each. If you would like to attend, please book your free place via Eventbrite at http://bit.ly/1SOqReK

  • * A birth cohort study involves collecting data from a (typically large, community-sampled) group of people around the time of their birth and regularly through their lives. There are many such birth cohort datasets in Britain; click here for several examples.
