Due to refurbishment, the Manor Hall main building will be closed for the 2012/13 academic year. Students living in the Manor Hall annexes during this time will be able to use communal facilities at Clifton Hill House and Goldney Hall.
The Manor Annexes are located within a few minutes walk of the Students’ Union and most University departments. The position, on the edge of Clifton village, in one of the most elegant and exclusive parts of the city, means that there is a good choice of supermarkets, interesting shops, restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance.
The self-catered annexes are found in several buildings, each different in character and layout, on the Hall site. One of these is Sinclair House, which was built in the 1970s.
Manor Hall prides itself on its strong, supportive and active communal life. There is always something going on and all our residents are encouraged to join in. The Junior Common Room (JCR) Committee, elected from among the residents, organises a wide variety of social events throughout the year, including the Freshers’ Welcome, traditional ‘Formals’ and the annual Garden Party. Manor’s Music and Drama Society (MAD) regularly stages musicals and plays, and there are opportunities to play sport and take part in charity fund raising and other activities. Our resident team of Senior Residents headed by the Warden helps to foster the Hall’s positive and friendly atmosphere.
A number of characterful converted houses in the grounds and on the road above the Hall site provide over 80 places. Some rooms have washbasins and residents share kitchens and bathroom facilities. The majority of study bedrooms are good sized single rooms, but there is also a small number of shared rooms. Sharing a study bedroom is a popular and economical option.
Sinclair House is arranged as twelve flats, each with five single study bedrooms (without washbasins) and shared communal facilities: shower room, WC and kitchen/diner. Ten further flats provide accommodation for international students and their families. While Manor Hall is a mixed hall, with an approximate 50/50 split between male and female residents, the accommodation in annexes and undergraduate flats is single sex.
