Introduction

Badock Hall is a catered hall, located in a wooded campus at Stoke Bishop, approximately two miles from the main University precinct. The Hall was built in 1964 and named after Sir Stanley Badock, a benefactor and Pro Vice Chancellor to the University in the early part of the 20th Century.

Living at Badock Hall

Badock is known for its happy atmosphere, it buzzes with life. Sports teams, drama productions, a variety of entertainments created by the Junior Common Room (JCR) and a thriving Christian Fellowship combine in an excellent mix of activities for resident students to enjoy. All in all Badock Hall offers an ideal environment for creating life-long friendships in an academic world.

A wide range of facilities are available to students at Badock Hall. These include quiet study areas, a computer room and Freeview TV in the Terrace room. Students are encouraged to make use of the grand piano in the Dining Hall and another electric grand piano is available. In addition, the Music Practice Room offers a drum kit and piano. The legendary Badock Bar, run as the Gemini Club, has air conditioning, bar games, a high quality sound system, plus a DJ Booth; and for the sports enthusiasts there are all-weather tennis courts and squash courts in the hall grounds, plus table tennis and a snooker room. Secure bike storage space can be booked prior to arrival and limited permit parking is available on application, pre-booking is essential.

The Hall Warden leads a team of 11 pastoral senior residents, trained to support residents by providing personal guidance and advice throughout the academic year.The Hall operates within the University of Bristol disciplinary code of conduct and fines or community service will be imposed for unacceptable student behaviour. At Badock Hall there is a strict no smoking policy, applicable within all buildings on campus. The possession or use of any illegal substance is prohibited and residents should be aware that severe penalties are to be expected for infringement of this ruling.

Accommodation

Badock Hall offers 441 rooms. Of these 256 have a wash basin. There are communal bath/shower rooms on each floor. Only ten en suite rooms are available; these are usually allocated to 1st year students by the Accommodation Office, on the basis of medical need. Three of the double-sized rooms may be let on a shared occupancy basis. Accommodation units are split into floors of up to 13 rooms, each with a small pantry area for preparing snacks. All main units are mixed, although the individual floors vary between mixed and single sex occupancy.
