Welcome to WebHAT

The aim of this web page is to provide information on the risks of tail biting in pigs, and suggestions to manage these risks on farm. This web page is one of the outcomes of a 3 year project funded by BPEX and the RSPCA aimed at preventing tail biting outbreaks and controlling the severity if they occur.

The WebHAT is a web based husbandry advisory tool (questionnaire) to allow you to identify specific risks of tail biting on your unit as well as key risk areas to tackle. It provides further information on each of the risks, as well as suggestions to help manage any risks which are identified.

The WebHAT is the result of a project where a pilot questionnaire was used to work out which particular risks were present in pens on 65 units (176 visits) and their consequence for recorded tail biting.
