The eye is the only organ that offers a non-invasive means of visualize the real time local immune response to disease.  Utilising higher resolution systems (e.g.  Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope) it is possible to visualize cellular and subcellular changes as they occur in the retina.
