Stem cell biology
Neurogenesis is the process that generates new neurons from neural progenitor cells. Neurogenesis occurs during development of the nervous system and continues in the adult brain in two regions: the subgranular zone of the hippocampal dentate gyrus and the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricules. We collaborate with the Stem Cells and Neuroregeneration group and School of Biochemistry to understand how genes regulate neurogenesis and autophagy of neural progenitor cells in the immature and mature brain.
