Cell Signalling and Stem Cells

Cell signalling is embedded in much of our work, where we explore the mechanisms by which cells respond and adapt to extra-cellular stimuli including hormones, neurotransmitter, growth factors etc.

This is particularly pertinent to work on stem cells where we are interested in the signalling networks controlling cell fate decisions such as differentiation, survival, death and commitment. Here, much of our emphasis is on neuronal stem cells and their potential use as models and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's, Huntington's and Alzheimer's disease.
