Production

Virtual production and multi-camera studio
Our 349m² professional studio space offers a 220m² active area with a 9m x 3.5m LED virtual production stage, flexible lighting control and integrated motion capture. We have a range of high-quality camera equipment available for use, including the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF and Sony VENICE 2. We also offer flexible green room and production office spaces, with on-site parking for the duration of your shoot.
Motion capture
Capture performance and movement using our 28-camera Vicon motion capture system. Housed within the same studio as our virtual production stage, the system enables fast, accurate tracking of biomechanical movement data for character animation in games, film and immersive experiences, and human performance analysis in health and sport research.
TV and film post-production
Finish a production without leaving the building. Our two in-house edit suites offer industry-standard editing, grading and finishing, connected to every studio and gallery via a building-wide broadcast network so content can move seamlessly from set to screen.
Live streaming
Broadcast live from any space in the building using our live vision and audio galleries and dedicated distribution facilities. A building-wide production network makes it possible to create, edit and stream content in real time, supporting everything from multi-camera event coverage to live augmented reality broadcasts.
Immersive technologies

Digital twinning: complex data visualisation and interaction
The Reality Emulator is our 360° wraparound LED volume, where groups of up to eight people can step inside and interact together with complex 2D and 3D data models. Powered by an on-site data centre and linked to Varjo headsets for individual immersive views, it supports digital twins, training simulators and immersive visualisation for anything from infrastructure projects to entire city campuses.
Extended reality suite
A dedicated, adaptable space for testing and developing virtual, augmented and extended reality hardware and applications. Where the Reality Emulator centres on our large-scale LED volume, this suite is built around headset-based XR and portable LED displays giving teams a flexible environment to prototype, test and refine immersive experiences before scaling them up.
Cinema and audio

Cinema screenings
Screen and review new content in our purpose built 35-seat cinema, fitted with a 4K laser projector and a Dolby Atmos surround sound system.
Dolby Atmos mixing
Our Dolby Atmos-certified mixing environment means immersive audio can be mixed, monitored and signed off entirely in-house, without sending a project elsewhere for final post. Paired with the calibrated surround system in our cinema, it gives sound teams a genuine cinema-grade space to fine-tune Atmos content before it reaches a public screen.
Audience insights
Audience research can deliver insights into how people experience film, television and other creative content. It combines neuroscience, psychology and creative technology, to investigate what sustains audience immersion, how people respond to key moments and how experiences differ across and within audiences.
The cinema has the facilities to measure the audience responses moment by moment to content. Measurement methods include: in-seat tablet-based questionnaires; wireless heart rate monitoring; wireless dry electrode Electroencephalogram (EEG) and remote infrared audience cameras.
Innovation spaces

Neutral Lab
The Neutral Lab is a flexible, reconfigurable space with capacity for up to 40 people. Interdisciplinary and cross-sector teams can run workshops, hackathons, research sessions and prototype new projects together. Moveable furniture and a store of equipment support delivery of a wide range of events and public talks.
Workshop rooms
Flexible workshop rooms provide adaptable space for training sessions, meetings and small-scale events, complementing the building’s specialist labs. Combined with our coworking areas, they make The Sheds a place where teams can run training, host workshops and collaborate alongside our wider research and innovation community.
Project coworking spaces
Flexible coworking space for teams working on R&D projects, training and productions. Alongside dedicated production offices and support spaces, it's designed to keep project teams connected to The Sheds' facilities, expertise and innovation community.
