Increase sustainability content in teaching curriculum
We will include subject-relevant sustainability and climate teaching in all suitable degrees so every student understands how their subject connects to global challenges. This means adding sustainability topics to existing courses, offering more final-year projects focused on sustainability, and provide optional unit allowing motivated students to explore more deeply the connections between their subject and sustainability challenges.
Day-to-day, students will see more opportunities to learn about climate issues in their subject and take part in projects that make a real impact.
These changes need support from programme directors, motivated academics, and Bristol Institute of Learning and Teaching, to offer curriculum reviews and staff training. They will give graduates the knowledge and skills employers want, improve teaching quality, and make our programmes more attractive to students in the UK and internationally.
Promote and support student career opportunities in sustainability
Promoting and supporting student career opportunities in sustainability means creating clear pathways from interest to employment.
We will provide climate‑related extracurricular training and volunteering opportunities for students and build partnerships to offer work placements and internships in sustainability roles.
Day‑to‑day, students will have access to green skills programmes, volunteering projects, and events that showcase real career options in sustainability.
This will rely on support from the Careers Service, alumni networks, and external partners. It will help students gain valuable experience, boost employability, and turn their passion for climate action into meaningful work. Over time, it will increase student engagement and strengthen the University’s reputation as a place to launch sustainability‑focused careers.
Provide training for staff and students in sustainable working practices
We will provide both general and role-specific sustainability training for staff and include key sustainability messages in staff and student inductions.
These changes need clear communication, time in induction schedules, and expert support. They will help build a strong culture of sustainability, cut campus emissions, and give our community the skills to make a lasting difference.
