Strengthen focus on sustainability in civic engagement activity
Strengthening sustainability in civic engagement means working further with local partners to take climate action beyond campus.
We will create more joint projects and events with community organisations, share knowledge through networks, and give staff and students more chances to support local climate initiatives. Day-to-day, this means more opportunities to take part in projects that make a real difference.
These changes need leadership support, collaboration with community partners, shared goals, and long-term planning. Over time, this will increase public recognition, build strong partnerships, and create a culture of climate action that benefits both the University and the wider community.
To make this work in practice, civic climate action will be embedded into University governance, with named senior sponsorship. Activity will be aligned with local and regional priorities, and focused on long-term partnerships rather than one-off projects. This will position the University as a dependable civic partner in the just transition, not just a contributor of ideas.
