Cycling events and training

Find out about our cycle clinics, cycle security marking, cycle to work roadshows and information on how you can get free cycle lessons.

Cycle events

Cycle clinics and cycle security marking are free of charge to all University staff and students. You can find a full listing on the events calendar.

Cycle clinics

At the cycle clinics, mechanics from Taylored Cycles can give your bike a free tune-up and carry out basic repairs.

Bike security marking

When your bicycle is security marked, it is permanently marked with a unique code on a tamper proof sticker and a bike register sticker. You will be given your bike register number and a link to an online form which you will need to fill in with your details. The University will then arrange for these to be uploaded onto the BikeRegister database. This database is checked by the police in the event that a bike that has been security marked is reported to them as stolen.

You can also get your bicycle security marked for free on request by the University Police Officer at Royal Fort Lodge. Email the University Police Officer to arrange a mutually convenint time.

If you would like to receive a reminder the day before the clinic and cycle security marking, please sign up to our University Bicycle Users Group

Cycle lessons

If you’re new to cycling, or just want to improve your road skills, you can book a private training session with a qualified instructor. A one hour accompanied cycle ride can be arranged at a convenient time and place that suits you, for your chosen journey. This is available to all cyclists living in Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. For more information visit the Better By Bike webpage

Cycle to Work Scheme Roadshows (virtual)

Cycle to Work Scheme roadshows are available free to all University staff. Run by our provider Halfords, they will discuss in detail how the cycle2work scheme works, explain in detail what the actual requirements are for you to join the scheme and save money. They will answer any of questions you have around the scheme or about cycling in general.

Staff can find out more about the scheme on the Sustainability SharePoint.
