What to expect at your Medicine offer holder event
Once you have received an offer to study at the University of Bristol, you will receive your email invitation to attend an offer holder event.
We have planned the day to provide you with a taste of studying your subject at Bristol as well as insights into making the most of student life here.
This event is for offer holders for the following courses:
- Medicine (MBChB)
- Gateway to Medicine (MBChB)
1 - 1:10 pm
Arrive and get seated
1:10 pm - 1:25 pm
Welcome talk
Get ready for a hands‑on, energising introduction to what life could be as a first‑year medical student at Bristol. Throughout the day, you’ll dive into the activities that shape our programme, meet the people who make our community special, and get a genuine feel for what studying medicine here is all about.
Activities
1:35 pm - 3:45 pm
Take Part in a Mock Case‑Based Learning (CBL) Session
Step into the shoes of a Bristol medical student as you join a small group of fellow applicants to work through a mini CBL case—the heart of our teaching approach. You’ll experience how students collaborate, think critically, and apply science to real‑world scenarios. It’s interactive, supportive, and a brilliant insight into how you’ll learn with us.
Explore a Fun, Student‑Led Anatomy Activity
Our current medical students will guide you through an engaging anatomy session designed to bring the subject to life. You’ll get a flavour of what studying the human body is really like, ask questions about the course, and hear honest perspectives from the students who were in your shoes not long ago.
Step Into the Action With a Simulation (SIM) Session
Meet our “very ill” manikin and work together as a team to assess how unwell they are and what steps you can take to help. This exciting taster of clinical simulation introduces you to the fast‑paced, problem‑solving world of medicine—no experience required, just curiosity and teamwork.
Learn Vital Skills in a Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop
BLS is one of the first practical skills all our medical students learn, and this session gives you a chance to try it for yourself. You’ll learn the essentials of recognising an emergency and how to respond—a skill that’s not just important for your course, but for life.
1:35 pm - 2:05 pm
For Parents, Relatives, and Carers
While you’re getting stuck into these activities, we’ll also be running a dedicated lecture and Q&A session. It’s a great opportunity for your supporters to ask their own questions, understand how the course works, and learn how best to help you prepare for the journey ahead.
