Research Development International
The Research Development International (RDI) team advises researchers on a range of grant opportunities including European, overseas and UK funding for international research. We provide guidance throughout the application process.
Research Development Sharepoint site [UoB staff access]
University of Bristol staff can access a wide range of Research Development resources and information via the Sharepoint intranet site.
RDI areas of expertise:
- Supporting researchers in applying for EU and overseas competitive research funding, as well as UK funding which requires international partners.
- Providing seed funding for international collaboration via our internal award schemes. This funding can be used to host visiting academics from around the world as well as mobility grants for Bristol researchers.
- Coordinating activities led by the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a group of 24 research-intensive institutions spanning six continents.
External researchers can apply to the following schemes at Bristol:
- Horizon Europe's European Research Council (ERC) grants for researchers at all career stages - the ERC is particularly keen to encourage excellent proposals from Principal Investigators based in non-EU or associated countries.
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme
- Royal Society Newton International Fellowships
- British Academy International Fellowships
- European Research Council Synergy Grants
- Horizon Europe's Global Challenges Clusters - working with European and global partners to address intellectually demanding and socially urgent problems. More information provided under Pillar II of the Horizon Europe Programme Structure.
- International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF) provides funding to work with overseas partners and is managed by the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. It includes an Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) funding stream, which supports research and innovation partnerships with low and middle-income countries to support sustainable development. The fund supports multi-disciplinary projects that tackle four broad themes:
- Resilient Planet,
- Transformative Technologies,
- Healthy People, Animals and Plants,
- Tomorrow's Talent.
- Some UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) funding councils permit international co-leads and visiting researchers in their responsive mode funding calls. Search the UKRI Funding Funder.
