Professor Leon Tikly, School of Education, University of Bristol

UCT host: Professor Azeem Badroodien, School of Education, University of Cape Town
Programme dates: Dec 2023 - Dec 2026
The Professorship will assist the Universities of Cape Town and Bristol in transforming knowledge and research to support just and environmentally sustainable futures for disadvantaged communities in Africa. It links to strategic priorities at both universities and to global agendas. The focus in year one will be on how co-created, transdisciplinary research can generate relevant knowledge for realising just and sustainable futures whilst in year two, attention will be on how relevant knowledge can be integrated into university curricula. Year three activities will focus on how universities can assist communities in realising just and sustainable futures through supporting public education programmes. Activities undertaken across both universities will involve developing case studies of successful practice, facilitating capacity mobilisation for early career researchers, strategy ‘indabas’ (meetings) for senior leaders and a UNESCO Chair sponsored public seminar series. Outputs will include a funding application, three journal articles, an edited book and blog posts.
