Similarity judgements of restoration, visual discomfort and liking for Natural and Urban Environments

13 June 2023

This experiment is no longer running, please refer back to the main experiment page: www.bristol.ac.uk/psychology/experiments

Description of the research:

Our primary aim is to investigate how and why people find nature as opposed to urban environments more restorative than others. In this study, you will be asked to view a collection of nature and urban scenes and indicate how much you like them, how visually uncomfortable you find them and how fascinating they are. For each task, you will need to arrange the images on a computer screen in terms of similarity. The three tasks can be completed at times convenient for you, but we recommend completing them on separate days. The first task/session takes approximately 1 hour, with the following two tasks taking approximately 45 minutes.

You will be reimbursed £30 for your time!

Requirements:

  • Over the age of 18
  • Have normal/corrected-to-normal vision
  • Willing to complete three tasks, either attending the lab on three separate occasions or completing multiple tasks in a single visit/two visits.
