Eating behaviour in Craniopharyngoima

19 May 2021

This study is no longer recruiting for participants, please refer back to our main experiments page: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/psychology/experiments/

Craniopharyngoima (CP) are benign tumours that grow near the pituitary gland and are believed to alter eating behaviours. We are conducting this study to investigate eating behaviours and obesity in this patient group. We are looking for volunteers that are matched to CP patients who have already participated, to compare their eating behaviour.

In this study, you will be required to fast overnight and undertake measures of the following: metabolic rate (breathing into a mask), subjective hunger, and quality of life and eating behaviour questionnaires. You will be asked to consume a glucose drink and will be provided with a buffet lunch, with a selection of hot and cold foods. You will be asked provide details about age, gender, height and weight.

Testing will take place between May and July 2021, and will take place in person at UHBW Trust CRF Bristol. You will receive £10 Amazon voucher for taking part.

Inclusion criteria:

Participants need to be matched on age, gender and pubertal stage, thus we are looking for:

  • 20 and 23 year old females
  • 21 year old males

We are also looking for younger participants (from 10 to 16 years) so please do pass this advertisement on to anyone who might be interested in experiencing a research study.
