Research themes
Research in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience is organised around complementary themes that reflect shared strengths in understanding behaviour, brain function and health.
- Health and wellbeingThe Health and wellbeing theme brings together members of the School to understand the biological, psychological and social influences underpinning physical and mental health, and to co-produce and evaluate engaging and effective behaviour change interventions.
- Learning and teachingThe Learning and teaching theme brings together members of the School who seek to study, understand, evaluate, and champion innovative, evidence-based, best-practice in learning and teaching. We conduct research on a broad range of applied pedagogic topics that, when seen collectively, are aimed at helping all students thrive in education.
- Mind and brainThe Mind and brain theme brings together members of the School to understand a broad range of psychological and neuropsychological processes, including attention, perception, memory, language, decision-making, and the interplays between them.
- Self and societyThe Self and society theme brings together members of the School interested in studying how people interact with each other and the world around them. Our work focuses on the psychological mechanisms and outcomes of the relationships that an individual has in and with society.
- NeuroscienceUnderstanding how the brain works is one of the great challenges of the current century. Investigators in our School are focused on understanding the contribution of synapses, cells and circuits in the expression of behaviour.
- Clinical neuroscienceThe School's Clinical Neuroscience theme seeks to understand how disorders of the brain and nervous system arise from dysfunction at the molecular, cellular, and network levels. By linking changes in brain structure and activity to symptoms, it aims to develop effective strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
