Dr Michael Daly

Three Schools Prevention Programme post-doctoral fellowship

Michael’s Three Schools Prevention Programme post-doctoral fellowship focused on improving support for women and their partners before pregnancy. The project explored how primary care services, such as GP practices, can help people improve their health before conception and give parents and babies the best possible start.

Working with women, partners, healthcare professionals and members of the public, Michael used interviews and co-production workshops to understand how preconception care should be delivered, including who should provide it, when and where it should be offered, and what support it should include.

The project also explored how care can be tailored to better meet the needs of groups who experience poorer health outcomes before and during pregnancy, helping to improve access and reduce inequalities.

Michael's fellowship rounded off his eight years with the Centre for Public Health, and reflects the Centre’s commitment to developing research that informs practice and improves population health. He has now joined the Public Health Specialty Training Programme in the South West, at Bristol City Council, and remains an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol.
