Hannah Robinson

NIHR Three Schools Pre-Doctoral Fellowship

Hannah Robinson is a Research Associate at the Centre for Public Health and is currently undertaking an NIHR Three Schools Pre-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, particularly how social and environmental factors affect health and wellbeing.

A key part of her fellowship has been the 4S Study, a national project looking at how schools, colleges and youth organisations can better support young people affected by self-harm and suicide. As part of this work, she has coordinated a Young People's Advisory Group, helped share research findings, and supported the development and launch of the Suicide Prevention Principles of Practice. She has also contributed to a range of publications and resources for academic, professional and public audiences.

Alongside the 4S Study, Hannah has worked on projects focused on hospital-initiated social prescribing, community-based approaches to wellbeing, and peer support for asylum seekers and refugees. Through this work, she has developed skills in qualitative research, evidence reviews, systems thinking, and working with researchers, practitioners and members of the public.

As part of her fellowship, Hannah completed a placement with Wesport, where she supported the development of Bristol City Council's Active Bristol Strategy and gained experience of how research can help shape policy and practice.

The fellowship has also given her opportunities to teach medical students, support public involvement activities, and build partnerships across research, practice and community organisations. She is currently preparing an NIHR Doctoral Award application focused on inequalities in young people's access to green and blue spaces, and how these spaces affect mental health and wellbeing.
