Research within the School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience is conducted across two broad themes:

Research themes

Much of our research is inter-disciplinary, involving national and international collaboration with colleagues in other schools, universities and industry. This collaborative approach fosters a dynamic environment that is well supported with funding from many sources, particularly from the MRC, BBSRC, Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation.

Teaching innovation research

We develop and evaluate innovative approaches within our teaching, the outcomes of which have been published in a range of educational journals. Several members of the Teaching Innovation Group also have editorial roles for educational journals, sit on educational grant awarding panels and contribute to the development of national educational policy through their involvement in learned societies.

Our academics have access to excellent research facilities across the Faculty of Life Sciences, including the Histology Services Unit and teaching-development-research facilities like the Virtual Microscope and human patient simulators.

Research events

We have two long-running and well respected research-seminar series taking place throughout the year, as well as numerous special events such as the Bristol Festival of Neuroscience.
