Research interests
Katie Pike is a medical statistician, working within the UKCRC registered Bristol Trials Centre. She is involved in the design, conduct and analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and is a statistical co-applicant on a number of projects. She has experience in RCTs in a variety of clinical areas including cardiac surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pain management, emergency medicine and bariatric surgery. Her main interests lie in large, pragmatic RCTs and addressing methodological challenges that arise.
Her PhD was undertaken via an NIHR doctoral fellowship and was titled “Design and analysis of randomised controlled trials not seeking marketing authorisation: when and how to adjust for multiplicity”. She performed systematic reviews and a survey of triallists, undertook simulation work to compare methods used to address multiplicity, developed recommendations for handling multiplicity, and finally produced a trial design tool to calculate sample sizes in trials where multiplicity issues arise.
