Technical Staff are vital in enabling our Research and Education activities to take place. Technicians work in a huge variety of roles including in our teaching and research laboratories, specialist facilities, workshops and schools across our many sites anddisciplines. There is a distinct Technical Staff family at Bristol, that is significant part of our wider Professional Services Community. 

Technical staff development

The University's People Development team collaborates with the Technical Staff community to offer bespoke career and skills development support for Technical staff, including specialist workshops, leadership programmes, peer learning groups and newsletters.

Career Framework for Technical Staff

This pioneering framework, led by technical staff, was developed and implemented in 2017. It is the career framework for all our technical resourcing. It gives clarity to the different levels of technical work, provides supporting information to describe those levels, informs individuals to help them manage their careers, and guides future workforce planning. It also introduces consistent language when describing various technical roles.

Technicians at Bristol are vital in supporting the delivery of our excellent teaching and cutting-edge research. There are a wide variety of technical role types - teaching, facilities, stores, workshops, safety and specialist roles.
