UKRN Open Research Seminar: Preregistration and Registered Reports - What Are They and Why Should I Care?

The first UoB training course cascading down from the first round of UKRN Open Research Programme 'Train-the -Trainer' workshops. The training course is predominantly aimed at researchers in Bristol Medical School (although researchers from other disciplines are welcome!) and for those with little to no experience of preregistration and/or Registered Reports.

The course will cover:  

  • The reasons behind the push towards the use of preregistration and Registered Reports 
  • What preregistration and Registered Reports are and the difference between the two 
  • The pros and cons of preregistration and Registered Reports as well as common misperceptions 
  • The information to include in preregistration and Registered Reports 
  • A step-by-step example of preregistration on the Open Science Framework registry 
  • Signposting to major registries used in health and medical research, and further resources related to preregistration and Registered Reports
