Dr Monika Kuffer from the University of Twente in the Netherlands will be presenting on how data from satellites, combined with local knowledge and AI is helping advance poverty mapping for social policy applications. Rapid urbanization is transforming cities and influencing the dynamics between rural and urban systems. Severe housing and environmental issues are further exacerbated by the growing impacts of climate change. The problem of spatial inequalities is especially acute in cities of Low- and Middle-Income Countries. In addressing the issues, local adaptation strategies need to be inclusive of the most vulnerable populations, and should be underpinned by high-quality, timely, and reliable data.
