FENS-Hertie Winter School on Proteinopathies in Neurodegenerative Disorders

28 November 2024, 9.00 AM - 3 December 2024, 5.00 PM

Obergurgl, Austria

This event is organised by FENS in collaboration with the Hertie Foundation

Registration deadline: 29 August 2024

Neurodegenerative diseases related to protein aggregation in the brain (=proteinopathies), remain one of the big challenges in the global health sector. The vast complexity of the diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and related diseases, stimulates research in a variety of biological and medical research fields – from molecular structure to brain imaging and biomarkers -, and asks for multi-disciplinary research approaches to understand the causes and consequences of protein aggregation and neurotoxicity in the brain.

In this school, experts, studying protein aggregation and its consequences in model systems as well as in patients at the molecular, cellular, and brain level will present their views on neurodegenerative protein aggregation diseases. The international consortium will provide us with an overview of historic and recent breakthroughs in the field, we will learn and discuss about new advances in most disciplines of proteinopathy research.

The school will provide the unique opportunity to get in touch and exchange with proteinopathy researchers working in different disciplines and on different diseases, which will enable to gain a more holistic view on neurodegenerative diseases.
