We’ll be discussing a short Perspective paper, “The case for information fiduciaries: The implementation of a data ethics checklist at Seattle Children’s Hospital”, published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association in November 2020. The paper outlines the importance of ethical data practices in healthcare, and highlights the need for a checklist to evaluate ethical concerns for projects and studies.

Here are the questions we'll be discussing:

1. Do the paper and the checklist effectively address the ethical considerations data users should consider when collecting and processing health data?
2. Do you think the Best Practices described in the paper would be effective for managing data ethics in healthcare?
3. Can paediatric healthcare data effectively be used to inform data ethics across all branches of healthcare?
4. Should data scientists and analysts involved in healthcare be considered “Information Fiduciaries”?
