University Baroque Ensemble

  • Auditioned: Audition required
  • Director: Sammy Li
  • Rehearsals: Thursdays 7.00 - 9.00 pm, Victoria Rooms

The Baroque Ensemble is an auditioned group dedicated to sharing historically informed, high standard baroque repertoire from an exciting range of composers. Due to its smaller size and passionate members, the ensemble has a unique collaborative atmosphere, with friendly rehearsals and the opportunity for each instrument to shine during performances. We welcome those enthusiastic about baroque music (and those keen to discover more!) and have places available for strings, woodwinds and continuo, as well as brass and percussion. Music Theatre Bristol is one of the largest performing arts societies and provides numerous opportunities to get involved as a performer or as part of the band/orchestra. We have both auditioned and un-auditioned productions and initiatives, allowing anyone who loves musical theatre to build upon their performance skills, learn new songs and dances, and meet lots of people. MTB also hosts Musical Theatre workshops by industry professionals. So whether you’re a singer, dancer, actor, you can play a musical instrument or you are completely new to musical theatre, there are opportunities to get involved in the society all year round. Music is at the heart of our society and with a reduced membership price for band members it’s a great opportunity to play all your favourite musical theatre songs with some of the most famous scores in the world.

BOpS is a fun and flourishing society dedicated to allowing students to discover and experience the world of opera. Regardless of previous experience, we offer opportunities to aspiring singers, instrumentalists, actors, dancers, costumiers, conductors, directors and producers. BOpS provides members the opportunity to perform and get involved with productions; every year, we produce a small-scale production in the first term, and a large-scale production. Our shows next year will be performed in the Pegg Theatre in November 2025 and at the end of February 2026. In addition to these productions, BOpS puts on regular arias concerts, workshops and masterclasses throughout the year for members to learn new skills, meet new people and show off their talents!

(Vocal and instrumental auditions are separate for each production)

Composition Network

  • Co-ordinator: John Arbuthnott

The Composition Network is a collective of composers within BUMS. In our weekly session we present and discuss the compositions we have been working on and get helpful feedback and opinions from other members. We also hold a few dedicated composition concerts to showcase your original compositions performed by other BUMS members. The network also gives commission opportunities from both within and outside of BUMS (eg. an external composition competition). For further information please email BUMScomposition@outlook.com
