Vesuvius in the snow

Vesuvius in the snow

Sir William Hamilton, British ambassador in Naples, is remembered as a collector of antiquities and as a student of vulcanology. This view, originally drawn by Peter Fabris, is taken from Hamilton’s treatise ‘Campi Phlegraei’ in a rare French reprint made in the seventh year of the French Revolution, i.e. 1799.
