Saint Alban's Church, Westbury Park

Saint Alban's Church, Westbury Park

This is a fine example of the early work of the architect Sir George Oatley (1863-1950), who at this time (May 1893) was in partnership with Henry Crisp (1825-1896). These elevations and plans show Saint Alban's Mission Church, and are interestingly signed by the builder William Cowlin & Son, agreeing that they are the drawings referred to in a contract of December 1893. It was soon realised that this church was not big enough for the parish, and a new church was built. The building in this design is now the Church Hall of Saint Alban's, Westbury Park, Bristol, adjacent to the later church. Special Collections has a very large collection relating to Sir George Oatley's architectural practice (DM1812). It features work on varied projects throughout Bristol, and Britain, including a large number of buildings built for the University of Bristol. As well as drawings there are letter books of outgoing office correspondence. DM1812/3/4/7
