Lady in silks

Lady in silks

This lovely portrait of a Chinese lady is part of an album containing 13 exquisite portraits of Chinese men and women in ornate, colourful costumes, and a black and white image of a western house. It was presented to the Library by Miss A.E. Tanner in the summer of 1946. The album, though very fragile, has the remnants of a decorative paper cover, and silk ties. It is probable that the images are painted on rice paper. Unfortunately little more is known about the work. It was part of a donation of books, largely literary, including a significant collection of works by Thomas Sturge Moore (1870-1944). Oversize NC825.61 ORI
