Twelve ballads

This British adaptation of Haydn by William Shield dates from around 1788. The ballads include, inter alia, ‘The cottagers’ and ‘The forsaken lady’, with words by William Pearce and Thomas Holcroft respectively. The engraving by John Strongitharm is based on a design by the Royal Academician, Giovanni Battista Cipriani. This work is part of the extensive music collection presented to the University by Frank S. Brown.
