Tobogganing in Davos

Tobogganing in Davos

Mrs. Catherine Symonds (née North) painted this view of Davos, probably in the winter of 1877. It is contained in a fascinating album of literary pieces, photographs and drawings compiled by her daughter Margaret. The Symonds family left Clifton Hill House, Bristol, for the Continent in search of relief for the consumptive condition of Catherine's husband, John Addington Symonds, and, by 1880, were permanently resident in Davos.
