Sketch of Eskimos and Europeans in 1818, exchanging knives, clothing and mirrors for narwhal horns and walrus tusks. Drawn by John Sackhouse, Greenlander and interpreter for the expedition led by John Ross (the shorter of the officers pictured) and printed in Ross's account, 'A voyage of discovery: made under the orders of the Admiralty, in His Majesty's ships Isabella and Alexander, for the purpose of exploring Baffin's Bay, and inquiring into the probability of a north-west passage' (1819).
