Arts & Social Sciences Library, reopening!
The Arts and Social Sciences Library (ASSL) will partially reopen on Monday 20 October, providing 24/7 access to print collections and study spaces.
The ground floor of the Arts and Social Sciences Library has been refreshed and will completely reopen the week beginning 17 November.
To avoid further disruption, we are happy to announce that the building will partially reopen on Monday 20 October, at 9am.
- 24/7 access will revert to ASSL, the Hawthorns Study Lounge and Brambles will go back to being open 9am to 10pm Monday to Friday.
- Access to 1st and 2nd floor collections and study spaces.
- Some areas of the ground floor will not be accessible.
- The Creative Lab will open w/c 17 November.
- The Exhibition Gallery will open with its first inaugural exhibition in early 2026.
Important information
- You must have your UCard for entry.
- Food is allowed on the ground floor in the designated area, only bottled water and lidded drinks on the upper floors.
- A collection of essential printed material from ASSL will remain in Wills until full reopening.
- The ground floor silent study space will remain closed.

Library Support
The Library Support Team will not be running drop-ins until ASSL fully reopens, but you can contact them by email to ask any questions. You can make online or in-person appointments via the Library webpage
The Accessible Technology Room is open. If you are eligible to use the bookable rooms, they are now open too.
Visitor access
The Day Reader Scheme and walk-in access for SCONUL will remain suspended and we will only be processing applications for SCONUL band A, B and C while until we fully reopen the week of 17 November. Please contact lib-access@bristol.ac.uk if you have urgent need for access to our collections.
IT Counter
The IT Counter and Student Laptop and Mobile Clinic will remain located just inside the rear entrance of the Fry Building (School of Mathematics). Open 8.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. They are aiming to return to ASSL week beginning 17 November.
