The LLM in Health, Law, and Society is a distinctive, master’s level degree that goes beyond traditional courses on healthcare law to look at the relationships between law, governance and health across society and governmental sectors.
The Wellcome Trust's aims with the scholarship scheme are to:
- Improve students’ understanding of health through the humanities or social sciences
- Prepare students for a career in health-related humanities or social science research
- Build an influential and diverse population of talented researchers
The scholarship will provide:
- Payment of tuition fees (at UK level, or international level for applicants from countries with low- or middle-income economies)
- An annual stipend of £16,000
- A research budget
Eligibility: The scheme is open to students who pay UK fees, or international students from countries with low- or middle income economies as listed on the Wellcome Trust's website.
To apply for the scholarship: On submitting your application to the LLM programme in Health, Law, and Society applicants must email an additional personal statement as a Word document or PDF to the HLS LLM Mailbox.
This statement should explain in no more than 500 words:
- How the LLM in Health, Law, and Society fits the applicant's career plans and ambitions; and
- How the degree will help the applicant contribute to Wellcome’s aims with the funding scheme (as listed above).
Deadline: To be eligible for a scholarship, applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 3rd June, 2022.
Up to two scholarships will be awarded for the 2022-23 academic year. Selection criteria will account for applicants’ academic excellence, the aims of the degree programme, and the aims of the Wellcome Trust with this scholarship scheme.
Decisions will be made by Friday 17th June, 2022. Successful applicants will be required to communicate their acceptance of the scholarship by Friday 1st July, 2022.
