Driven by the student community, the Best of Bristol (BoB) Lecture Series aims “to celebrate great teaching as an integral part of academia, to celebrate Bristol as an academic community and to inspire students and the wider public to take an interest in new subjects.”
Professor Chris Willmore has been invited to speak on the topic of Sustainablity for her Best of Bristol Lecture; the BoB lecturers and lecture topics are nominated by students, and the series of ten lectures are organised by students and supported by the University of Bristol and Bristol Students’ Union.
The core goal of the series is to give everyone the chance to experience the best lecturers from across the university and to inspire them to take an interest in everything the University and the academic community has to offer.
The abstract for Chris’ lecture, entitled 'What is a Sustainable Future' reads:
“It’s easy to see sustainability as being about guilt, about stopping doing things. This lecture looks positively at sustainability and the future we want to inhabit. This is about what we want, not what we don’t want. How can we make it fun and achieve a real difference to our university, our city and the world.
It will look at how we can change our curriculum, change the campus and learn to tread lightly on the planet. It will reveal why some of the habits you develop at university will stay with you for life- and why some will get ditched. And pose the question – what can you say?”
The lecture will take place on 20 March, 1PM - 2PM, in the Peel Lecture Theatre, School of Geographical Sciences. Register for a free ticket via Eventbrite.
The Best of Bristol lecture series is funded and supported by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education, Bristol SU and BILT.
